ICE CONDITIONS

As of February 6, 2012 ice conditions on Lake Winnebago have stayed about the same we didn’t loose any ice but we didn’t gain any either.There is still only 6 inches of ice on the last places to freeze.We will be going out February 7 and check the ice by the main crack to see if Otter Steet fishing Club is going to put out a ATV bridge. We will keep everybody posted on this website.Lake Poyga nand Lake Buttes Des Morts still have 10 to 14 inches of ice.They are traveling by vehicles out there but use caution.

As Of January 31, 2012, Ice conditions havn’t changed much since Sunday. The extremely warm temperatures are going to make the cracks on the ice move and push up use caution when close to these cracks. Vehicles are not recommended on Lake Winnebago at this time. ATV’S and snowmobiles need to use caution.There is between 6 and 12 inches on the lake. Lake Poygan and Lake Butte des Morts have 10 to 13 inches of ice. If your driving vehicles on Lake Poygan and Butte des Morts use extreme caution.

ICE REPORT

As of January,28, 2012. We flew over Lake Winnebago on the 27th and found the whole lake was froze over. There were many cracks running east and west more than normal.Some of the cracks were 2 to 4ft wide. We could see were the ice froze last.After we landed we went out on the lake with 4 wheelers to check were it froze last. There is only 4 to 6 inches on those areas. there are many of those areas on the lake. On the west shore the area is from Stoney beach in Oshkosh and goes along the shore out about 200 yds and anywhere from 100 to 300 yds wide all the way to Neenah. There are areas out in front of Wendts, Stockbridge,Quinny, Brothertown and Calument. These areas are very dangerous.The rest of the lake has 8 to 12 inches. I recommend foot travel only at this time.Now the bays of Lake Winnebago ,Lake Poygan ,Lake Buttes Morts have 10 to 13 inches many fisherman are traveling with atv’s and snowmobile. There are also many venturing out with vehicles check with your local fishing clubs and bait shops on where to go on these lakes.and bays.HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND AND BE SAFE

As of January 25,2012    Ice conditions haven’t changed much on Lake Winnebago there is still areas with only 3 to 4 inches of ice. On the east side of the lake there has been some atv travel but use extreme caution.North south and west shores are the same.I recommend only foot travel.Lake Poygan, and Buttes Des Morts has 10 to 12 inches there is some vehicle travel on these lakes check with your local fishing club.

As of January 23,2012 We walked out on lake Winnebago Sunday afternoon and found where the open holes were last week there was only 3 to 5 inches of ice use extreme caution if you are to venture out onto the ice. On the west shore of the lake the 3 to 5 inches of ice was only out about 200  yards out from shore it went from Oshkosh to Neenah.  Most of the other areas on the lake had 8 to 10 inches.Lake Poygan and Buttes Des Morts have about 8 to 10 inches with some areas having 12 inches. there are some vehicle traffic going out but use caution. I recommend  atv’s and snowmobiles yet untill we get some more ice.

As of Janurary 20,2012 ice conditions changed on Lake Winnebago due to the strong winds yesterday. There are open holes all around the lake I recommend not to venture out on to the lake at all at this time the winds need to calm down to freeze the open holes,Lake Poygan and Lake Buttes Morts are ok for atv’s and snowmobiles still be careful around the east end of Lake Pogan where Lake Winneconne connects to Lake Poygan. As of January 19,2012 ice condtions havent changed much from the17th.We have some cold weather here but be patient the open holes on Lake Winnebago are just skimmed over with a couple inches, Recommended to stay off until Saturday the 21st then only foot travel.Our crew will be going out to check ice Saturday the 21st on Lake Winnebago.   Lake Poygan and Lake Buttes Des Morts has up to 12inches and many areas only have 6 to 7 inches recommeded to use atv and snowmobiles at this time.GOOD LUCK FISHING
